Throughout college we grow and learn through all of the new experiences that we have. From living on our own, cooking for ourselves, doing our laundry, and even planning for our future. My freshman year was both fun and scary. I had no idea what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I spent endless hours trying to decide what I like what I was good, and this just ended up stressing me out. As I continue to plan for my future I realize that planning doesn’t always go the way you want. Life is unpredictable and that’s what makes it exciting. After watching all of the videos from Alumni it just confirms my belief that your future will be what you make it and as long as you work hard and love what you do, my future seems pretty bright!
The first video that I really enjoyed was Lynnette Hulgan the owner of Essential Details. I enjoyed hearing about all of the hard work and determination she put into her business to make it successful. I have so much respect for entrepreneurs; it’s a scary adventure and a huge risk. Lynnette was able to make her business successful as well as really love what she does. I also think being an event planner would be a great job, since you will never plan the same thing twice!
Next I really like hearing about all of Anna Janusz experiences. She worked at many companies from construction, agriculture, and healthcare. Anna worked with media relations and trade shows. She also talked about how she traveled which is something I would enjoy to do as well. Anna currently works for Hanson Dodge, which is an advertising firm. I really liked how Anna was able to work in PR as well as switch into advertising with her degree. Anna shows that you can have all types of jobs in the PR field and learn new ideas as you go.
Finally the video interview with Kristin Gritt was really easy for me to relate to. Kristin talked about how she changed her major from accounting to PR; I went through a very similar scenario. After taking and Intro Class in PR with Corey Davis I realized I really enjoyed his class and decided this is what I want to do. Kristin talked about all of her internships and how experience is great even if you don’t get paid. Kristin talked about how her internships helped her land her first job, and how important networking can be.
