Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate Social Responsibility is what companies should be providing in order to take responsibility of their companies actions on the environment and community. Socially Responsible companies will go above and beyond the standard and take time to devise plans and extra funds to act responsibly while producing their product. Companies that are Social Responsible have strong ethics and strive to have a positive impact on the environment, consumers, community, and stakeholders.
Corporate Social Responsibility is important in PR because you want your company to be viewed positively by the public. If your company goes above and beyond the social responsibility standard it will be recognized by the community and give your company positive press.

The Coca-Cola company has a strong mission that demonstrates positive social responsibility:
“Our Roadmap starts with our mission, which is enduring. It declared our purpose as a company and serves as the standard against which we weigh our action and decisions.
To refresh the world…
To Inspire moments of optimism and happiness
To create value and make a difference”

Coca-Cola has a variety of activities that make this company socially responsible. Some of these areas include saving water, recycling, minimizing material in packaging, and sponsoring events. Coca-Cola has recently introduced the multi-layered recycled bottle, made from recycled products to be more eco-friendly. They also introduced a recyclable shrink sleeve label on their new products in order to help reuse material.

Coca-Cola has been a funding partner of the Special Olympics since 1968. They even aired a commercial highlighting the accomplishments of the athletes who participate in the Special Olympic events. They use volunteers and create awareness of the event. They event fund uniforms and have free drinks for the athletes. Taking time to plan and participate in this event for 35 years is a big social responsibility and one they seem to enjoy.

  1. I really like their partnership with the Special Olympics. Coke has a huge reach and is associated with a bunch of other companies; I just can’t get past the harmful effects of their products. The fact that Coca-Cola can clean metal scares me a little. Regardless, it is good that they are implementing CSR in their business model.

  2. It’s great to see how much Coca-Cola does for both the environment and the public. When I was viewing their sustainability webpage, I was surprised to see how much they do and the large variety of programs they are involved with, such as the Antarctica expedition to the scholarships they give during the Hispanic Heritage Month. All of their efforts seem to have great impact.

  3. This is very interesting. I haven’t heard of the multi-layered recycled bottle, or the recyclable shrink sleeve label, but it’s good to know that Coca-Cola is taking the right measures to sustainability. I would think that it’s a little hard for a company like Coca-Cola to really become sustainable because of the product that they are selling and how they have to sell the soda in bottles or cans.
